STOP! Holding Space
Recently I found myself sitting in a sharing circle. The person sitting across from me was wide eyed and lost, his once coherent thought now vanished into thin air when it was his turn to share. The guy sitting next to him, in full lotus position, hands situated in heart position was unfortunately, holding space.
Well intentioned, but mis-informed space holding.
Holding space by opening your channel and letting spirit flow through can be a powerful experience. If you’re reading this, you’re likely a sensitive, intuitive being who knows that when someone releases a surge of energy, you feel it deeply—even to the point of distraction. It takes time and discernment to know when to open your channel, when to close it, and how to navigate between the two
If you are doing energy work, and you are guiding the session or the client, then it may be best to keep your channel open. If someone is sharing, or you are sharing the space with others, then it may be more appropriate to track the energy, or just be present.
This could also a good time to question what it is you are feeling in your body that you may be wanting to escape from. You can always choose to keep your channel closed until you are sure it is time to be guided. Instead choosing to be present with them, and letting that presence be guided through the heart.
Ultimately, holding space means creating a safe, supportive environment for others to feel seen and heard, all while maintaining your own balance.
Choose wisely, and forgive graciously.
